Wow! What a busy week, with the Ice Day on Wednesday, Fun Run on Thursday, and wrapping up our Pet Study! The kids did a great job and had lots of fun. On Tuesday the afternoon class had the opportunity to meet a comfort dog! They all seemed to really enjoy petting this gentle and calm dog. We read some books about service dogs and therapy dogs in both morning and afternoon classes. The kids really were excited to learn about how much some animals can help people, even calling the hospital if their handler has a seizure, pressing elevator buttons for a handler that uses a wheelchair, or alerting a deaf owner when the doorbell rings. They are also doing a great job retelling information from nonfiction books!
Thursday we all ran in our Fun Run! The kids did a great job and were excited to help the school. If you were able to come out and watch your child run, I hope you enjoyed the experience. For some kids, events like this can be difficult because they are loud, crowded, and a change from our regular routine. That's ok. We support them through the activity, and even kids that struggled a bit were able to calm down afterwards, enjoy their day, and look back on some fun memories of the event. We also let all kids who wanted to take their Boosterthon t-shirts off and put them in their backpacks after the event. Some kids were hot or itchy from the extra shirts and that's ok too.
When dropping off or picking up your child, please always park in a legal parking spot. Sometimes people have parked where it is not a true spot, and it blocks people in. Other times, people park in spots designated for disabled parking, without having the disabled parking plate or vehicle designation. Please take the extra time to find an appropriate spot so that everyone can find the spots they need. If we see people coming in, we hold the door, even if it is running late, and it is important that we don't block people in or take spots from people that need them. Thanks for your help in this!
Next week we will be beginning a new study: Balls! If you have any balls you can send in next week for our study, we'd appreciate it! We will return them at the end of the study. Please label with your name if possible to make that process easier. We are looking forward to a new unit of study!
