Where has all the time gone? This will be the final website update of the school year. Next week we will only have a 2 day week, and the last day of school will be on Wednesday. (If you have another child in the Full Day program, they do go one more day beyond that.) Our last full week has been a busy one. We've built and measured buildings, retold The 3 Little Pigs using props, and finished our journals. We also had our Young Athletes culmination event! The kids did a great job, especially considering what a hot day we had for the event! It was lots of fun, and we really appreciate the help of our volunteers! The kids had a great time!
Dear Families, Where has all the time gone? This will be the final website update of the school year. Next week we will only have a 2 day week, and the last day of school will be on Wednesday. The kids did a great job, especially considering what a hot day we had for the event! It was lots of fun, and we really appreciate the help of our volunteers! The kids had a great time! We also graphed where we will go to school next year. We made both graphs with our pictures on a bulletin board, as well as making a graph with our own bodies to show where we will attend school. Since there are more options now for preschoolers to go to full day programs next year, we did not graph specific schools. We simply placed all preschoolers together as returning to preschool next year. Students that will move on to kindergarten next year also visited a kindergarten classroom this week. We explained that this will not be their specific classroom necessarily, but just a kindergarten classroom. The kindergarten class made a book for our visit, of ABC's of kindergarten and told us the top 3 things to expect in kindergarten! 3- Have fun! 2- Eat lunch at school! and 1- Go to school all day! I am always sad as we come to end of school years. I love working with these kids, and it is hard to let them go. I know all the children will do great though, whether they return to half day preschool, go on to full-day preschool, or spread their wings and move on to kindergarten. Whether or not students remain in my class, I am always happy to hear from you and happy to help out any way I can. Please keep in touch as students move on! I'd love to hear from you! I do check email over summer, so if you need anything, feel free to reach out! It's been an honor and a privilege to work with your children this year!

Hello Families! It has been another fun week here. We are working hard up to the very end, and I am still seeing new and exciting developments in your children! This week we talked about what jobs are involved in making buildings, and what tools are used. Children were challenged to build a building as tall as themselves! We're doing more comparisons between buildings, counting blocks and cubes to see how tall they are and measuring size. We're also reading lots of books about all the different kinds of buildings and how they are made! Next week is our last full week of preschool. We have our Young Athletes Culmination event on Wednesday, May 23. Our event times are 10:00 for the morning class and 2:00 for the afternoon class. Next week I also plan to create our graph depicting where we will go to school next year. I am planning to use an overarching category for returning preschoolers, and then graph actual buildings for students going to kindergarten. Since our program is expanding to include more full day preschool options, all the possibilities for returning students and which building they will be in, have not yet been decided.
Tuesday, May 29, we plan to take students going on to kindergarten for a brief visit to a Kindergarten classroom here at Cronin. Of course, not every student will be in that particular classroom, or even this building next year, but we want to give them some idea of what the kindergarten experience will be like. I will also be reading books about going to Kindergarten to the students, to help get them ready and understand the changes coming next year. Hello Families! The weeks are coming and going so quickly now as we head into the end of the year! This week we talked more about our favorite buildings, including some unfamiliar buildings, as well as talking about lots of buildings here in our neighborhood. We've been graphing our favorite buildings and discussing if we have ever seen some of the different kinds of buildings all around the world. We've been making building patterns too, and drawing some of our favorite buildings. We've also had some young architects constructing their own buildings at center time! At the end of last week we were also surprised to find all of our butterflies had come out of their chrysalis! On Tuesday, the morning class had their turn to let the butterflies go. We had a fun time watching them spread their wings and fly away. We will continue on with our building study next week. We will then be having our Young Athletes culmination activity the following week. In our final weeks of school I also plan to prepare children for the changes upcoming in the following school year. Whether they will be headed to the full day preschool with me, kindergarten at Cronin, kindergarten at another school, or half day preschool with another teacher, I want them to know what to expect, what other students may be with them, and have an idea of what their day will look like. We will be reading stories and talking about our questions as the end comes closer. These are conversations you can also be having with your children to help them understand what changes may be coming.
So this morning I told you we had one butterfly. Today over the course of the day though, 7 more butterflies emerged! It was so exciting for the kids to see more and more butterflies coming out of their chrysalis! I didn't want to leave all those butterflies in the net over the weekend, so we decided to release 5 of the 10 this afternoon! I wanted to share some pictures with all of you! Hello Families! We have had such an exciting week! We began our final study of this school year: Buildings! We'll be measuring buildings, counting things on the buildings, like doors and windows, and talking about lots of different kinds of buildings! Our writing center includes signs from many familiar buildings that many of the kids have likely been too, like Subway, Target, Dunkin Donuts, and so on. This is exciting for them to practice writing words, as well as realizing that there are some words like these that they can already read! They have also been having a great time making their own buildings! We read the 3 Little Pigs and talked about what makes a sturdy building. Before reading, we graphed what each of us would build our house out of: straw, sticks, or bricks. In their journals this week, they've also been drawing houses of straw, sticks, or bricks. Another exciting development this week has been the emergence of one of our butterflies! So 9 caterpillars are slowly growing, and changing, and resting in their chrysalis, while one butterfly has come out to spread her wings. Today will be our last day for library book check out. We will now be collecting books for the remainder of the year. Please do an extra look around your home to ensure you do not have any books hiding somewhere, so we can get these back to the library!
We are quickly approaching our Young Athletes event! It will take place on May 23. Thank you to all of you that have signed up to help! We appreciate it! This will be a fun and busy day! |
