Hello Families, It's been another great week here in Room 27! This week we talked all about what makes balls move. We've had lots of great talks about force and gravity! We explored movement by blowing on balls to make them move, made predictions, and measured the distance the ball rolled. This study has created wonderful opportunities for science and math concepts! We've experimented with movement of balls with ramps, and how a rough or bumpy surface on the ramp might change the movement. We experimented with balls moving in water too! I apologize for the confusion over picture day. There were miscommunications about picture day because it was originally scheduled with a different company. Picture day will actually be on April 7. I know many of you are likely concerned with the developing news on COVID-19. Here is what I can tell you about school and classroom procedures. I have always emphasized hand washing for our students, and we are continuing that practice, with extra vigilance. We wash hands after every gym or playground time. We wash hands before lunch as well. I have taught the kids to "wash all the germs away," by scrubbing all over their hands with soap, and counting to 20 while washing to ensure a long enough time. We have always done our nap time laundry weekly and continue this practice. We also have always washed down the mats weekly and continue this. Additionally we are having Ms. Gina, our lunch monitor, wipe down the mats and other classroom materials several times during the week, with disinfectant wipes. We remain vigilant about sending kids that appear to be sick home to recover. Please remember that the district policy is to keep your child home until they are fever and vomit free for 24 hours. This is for everyone's health and safety. I will also link here Dr. Koehl's most recent letter outlining district policies on the virus. If you have not been getting communications from Dr. Koehl, please do inform the front office so that they can be sure to include you in correspondence. This is especially important now as we are in unprecedented times and there is the possibility of school closure. You can reach our front office at (815)577-7314.
Next week we will be talking about who uses balls!
Hello Families, We've had another fun and busy week learning all about what balls roll. We've talked a lot about the sphere shape and how this shape rolls easily. You can also continue to talk about shapes with your child at home. Point out 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and whether they would roll and why or why not. We looked around the classroom to see what spheres we could find! We also talked about and graphed our thoughts on whether you could roll a pancake! It's also been a fun week celebrating Read Across America. We read by flashlight in the dark hallway, just like camping. Friday was dress like your favorite book character day. The kids had lots of fun reading Peanut Butter & Cupcake with me dressed up as Peanut Butter! Next week we will go on to talk about how balls move. We'll explore force and if there are ways for balls to move without throwing or kicking them.

A few more details: You won't need to bring their child's birth certificate - we already have current preschool student's BCs on file in Skyward. You only need to bring residency documents if you did not clear through CLEAR Batch and received a letter stating that you would need to bring documents. If you are a 3rd party resident, your residency will need to be proven in the summer, July 28 or August 5. Besides the school physical and immunizations, you will have to turn in an eye exam form and during the year, the dental exam form.
