It has been another fun and busy week here in Room 27. We have been learning all about families! The kids have really enjoyed learning all about each other's families and seeing the pictures everyone brought in. We used those pictures and your All About Me sheets to create houses depicting all the various families in our classroom. We also read a book called The Family Book, by Todd Parr. The kids loved learning about different kinds of families, how some families are big and some are small, some include grandparents, aunts, uncles, or pets. They were all so proud to show their friends their house, and what their family looks like. This also tied in nicely with the new letter we learned this week-F. The kids are doing a great job learning new letters. They also find their name in print each day. The 3 year old students find their name in all capital letters. As they get older, and show me they are ready for it, I have them find their name in proper manuscript. They also practice writing their name each day, again at the level that is right for them, so each child's name template looks a little different, because it is tailored to their specific needs. This week is wrapping up our All About Me study. You can help your child at home by practicing naming body parts and their functions, specifically with the 5 senses.
I hope to see you all next week at our SIP day Side by Side activity. It is sure to be a lot of fun, and a great learning opportunity for you and your child. This special event will take place on Wednesday, September 30. The morning class should attend with an adult from 8:35-9:45, and the afternoon class should attend with an adult from 10:00-11:10. There will be no bus service on this day, and children may only attend with an adult.
Next week our theme will be fall leaves. We will be making hand print art into leaf decorations. I will read a story called Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert. We will be learning the letter E. Our Second Step lesson will be on asking for what you want and need.
