We are continuing to do a great job with our clothing study! The kids are really enjoying taking note of the different features on their clothing! It's great to see! You can encourage this at home too. It's an easy way to bring in counting, letter identification, shape recognition and more! For example, you could ask them what letters are on their shirt, talk about the letter sounds, and what the shirt says. You could ask them to count buttons and pockets and zippers! There is so much to learn simply by observing our clothing! At school. we now have a clothesline, and are matching capital letter shirts and lowercase pants on the clothesline!
You may have also heard your child come home and use some new vocabulary with large words! We are working on being intentional in teaching math and science concepts, and adding some new words to our vocabularies in the process! Some new jobs include: Environmentalist, who turns off the lights as we leave the classroom, and helps to make sure we are recycling our paper products; Botanist, who is watering our classroom plant; Mathemetician, who is measuring plant growth and writing the numbers; and Meteorologist, who is telling us the weather each day! We've also added a number line for lining up and some numbers the children made around the room! The kids are getting so good at identifying numerals, and this will help them be prepared for kindergarten next year!
In small groups we have worked on patterning, language development, and measuring our clothing collection. This study has also been a great time to talk about measurement and sizes. This week we graphed the results of the tags in our shirt and the sizes. We looked to see if it showed a letter size or a number, and which letter or number it showed!
Have a wonderful long weekend! Please remember, no school tomorrow or Monday. When we return on Tuesday, there will be Kindergarten Transition meetings. I hope you will be able to attend this important event!
