We had a short but fun week this week. We have kept this week primarily to review as we prepared for the Spring Break and had a shorter week. The kids are all getting so good at identifying and writing letters and identifying letter sounds. We're practicing counting and shapes and identifying numerals too. We used play dough this week and the kids have enjoyed making animals and also letters. We were also using the play dough and letters to build some words with kids that are going to kindergarten next year. They had fun making word families such as cat, hat, rat, mat, sat, and so on. When we return from the break, we will be doing a clothes study. We will be studying different kinds of clothes, sorting into different categories, and exploring features such as pockets, zippers, velcro and buttons. Please send in any clothes you can spare, labeled with your child's name, to help us with our study! I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break! We will see you again in April!

Hello Families! What a great week we have had! We had 2 new friends start in our morning class! We enjoyed playing with Insta-Snow on Thursday! We also finished up our Young Athletes practices for this school year. I can't wait to show you all we have learned at the culmination event in May! I can't believe we have just one week left before Spring Break, and will then be nearing the end of the year! We have come such a long way, but still have so much more to learn before the end of the year! I am so proud of all the great progress our students have made, and I know many more gains are still to be made this year. This week we studied animals. We read a funny book called, Good Night Gorilla. The gorilla released all the animals from the zoo. The kids loved the funny story, and did a great job predicting what would happen next in the story, and telling the story as we turned each page. We are also continuing to draw animals and use animal masks in our dramatic play center. We learned the letter V in Handwriting without Tears. In art, we used liquid paint and droppers to make spring flowers. They turned out beautifully! Next week we will read Going to the Zoo. We will continue to learn about animals. We will have a review week for letters. I also need your help in the following week. We will be doing a clothes study when we return from Spring Break. If you have old clothing of any kind, not being used, please send it in to school for our clothing study. We need all kinds: shirts, pants, socks, ties, dresses, and anything else! Please put your child's name on a tag or somewhere on the inside, so that the items can be returned to you when we are finished. You can begin sending in items next week, so it will be ready to go when we return from break. We are looking forward to learning all about different types of clothing!
Next Week: Story: Going to the Zoo Please send in clothing items for a study, labeled with the child's name. Hello Families! What a fun week it has been learning all about animals! We have been learning about animals, and why some animals may camouflage to hide themselves. Our dramatic play center has additional animal and zoo items added to it. The kids have enjoyed drawing animals, and pretending to be animals. The kids are also getting really great at building creative block structures. They are working together and planning what to build, which is great. We also painted shamrocks this week, and then sprinkled them with leprechaun gold, (glitter.) We learned the letter N this week. We are always working hard at learning new letters, especially the letters in our names. We also work to pair the letter sounds with the letters. Kids getting ready to go to kindergarten next year should be doing more and more of this pairing letters to their sounds. At home, you can reinforce this by pointing out letters and words in the natural environment, like labels at the grocery store.
Next Week: Tuesday, March 15 Spring Pictures Friday, March 18 Art to Remember orders due Letter: V Story: Good Night, Gorilla Theme: animals Happy Dr. Seuss week! The kids have been having a great week of learning! They loved Buddy Reading today, and dressing as Dr. Seuss characters! We have also enjoyed lots of block building at center time. I love how the kids are creating more elaborate structures, and sometimes creating signs for the structures with elaborate details. This is good problem solving for the kid, and develops literacy as they create signs, and describe their buildings. We also had a visit from the dentist on Tuesday. The children learned how to keep their teeth healthy, and they all took home goody bags with new tooth brushes. This was part of our learning about Community Helpers.
