Our class is so excited to see the sun come out, and the snow melt away! We've had the chance to take some walks around the school and see the changes happening outside. We are ready for spring and getting outside more often!
Today marks the end of Trimester 2. Report cards will be coming home next week. I am proud of all of our kids and the progress they have made, both socially and academically! I can't say often enough how well they have done with working in a strange environment due to COVID. Somehow they find ways to interact and have fun and love learning, just like in any other year.
We are wrapping up our ball study today. They have really enjoyed experimenting with balls and learning all about them. This week we had a lot of fun making our own balls of slime! The slime is staying here at school for them to continue to play with during center time. Everyone made their own slime, separate from others, and it will stay with them even as we change pods. They loved learning how to do this, experiencing the magic of the chemistry happening, and using their slime to pretend different things during centers. It takes shape easily, so it can become different things! Many kids also chose to color their slime. This is an experiment as well. If you mix colors, we weren't sure what color it would become, but they had fun finding out! Some kids colored with paint, some used markers, and some used both! Everyone's slime looks a little different, but they are all very excited about what they made. It also provided a great opportunity for them to practice measurement, scientific exploration, and following directions.
Next week we will begin a new study on Exercise! Kids are showing interest in different kinds of exercise already. Lately they have been coming into class talking about doing dances as exercise, gymnastics, and yoga too. I'm looking forward to continuing our learning in this new way.
Next week we also have a shorter week. We will be off on Monday for a holiday, and again on Friday for a Remote Learning Planning Day. We will only attend school Tuesday-Thursday.
