Just a quick check in here to wish you all a wonderful holiday break! This was a short but very fun week here! We are celebrating with our holiday parties today. We've begun learning about how we take care of clothes, and will continue to learn about that when we return from the break! We have had fun with shaving cream at centers this week! We've been writing letters and drawing shapes in the cream. The kids love it and it is a great way to practice those academic skills. I hope you all have a very relaxing time home with your families, or away with your families, wherever you may be. We'll see you back here in the New Year! School resumes January 5.

Hello Families! I hope you are staying warm, despite the very cold weather this week! I can hardly believe it, but we are nearly to our Winter Break, and thus, almost half way through the school year! All the kids have come such a long way, and are doing a great job! I hope you are hearing your children comment on their clothes and your clothes at home. I know I have heard lots of commentary at school! This week we focused on the features of clothes. Kids are beginning to notice things like shapes on their clothes and how many buttons, snaps, zippers, etc. they are wearing. This is a fun way to practice concepts like shape recognition and counting! We have also been looking for letters and numbers on the tags of our clothing! It is so great to hear kids bringing these concepts into their daily interactions! Classroom Fun: Reminders:
No library check-out next week. Please return library books before the break. Winter Party Day is Wednesday. Party helpers please bring drivers license into office for scanning, and please plan to stay the full session. If you don't have Winter appropriate clothes in the locker, please send some in, just in case! Winter boots are not needed, as we do not go outside in the snow. Hello Families! We have begun delving into our clothing study and the students are having so much fun with it! Thank you for sending in so many fabric scraps and clothes. We are already beginning to put them to use, and it is lots of fun. We read a story twice this week called, Caps for Sale. The students love the story, because of how funny it is! A peddler sells caps, but some monkeys take his caps.... We have been using any caps sent in, along with some stuffed animal monkeys, for students to retell this story. In art, we have been making fabric collages! They are beautiful, and it is neat to see all the different kinds of material and all their creations. Today we also used fabric scraps to graph the shapes on our clothing! The kids got very excited about the real world connection here to their clothing and the shapes we were learning. I am encouraging them to look for more shapes at home. Graphing is also a great skill for them to practice, comparing which column has most and fewest, and counting how many in each column. Students have also been practicing matching capital and lowercase letters to make ornaments on a tree, and matching letters on mittens to hang on a clothesline! We've also enjoyed painting some Winter Wonderland pictures, after the snow last weekend! Next week we will be continuing on with our learning all about clothes. I hope you all stay warm this weekend!
Hello Families, We have completed the last week of our Tree Study! The students did such a wonderful job and have learned so much about trees! This week we talked about all the things people do with trees. From identifying things made of wood to learning that paper and maple syrup comes from trees, the kids have sure learned a lot. I love hearing them talk about how they notice what things are made from wood around our classroom. They have become scientific explorers, searching for things made from wood, or in other weeks using magnets to identify metal. These exploration skills are so important in developing their curiosity for learning! Next week we will begin our Clothes Study! I am so excited to explore this topic. Thank you to all of you that sent in fabric scraps or clothes for us to borrow. You can continue to send things in as you come across this, as we will be exploring clothes for several weeks. Of course, it is not necessary to send in clothing or fabric scraps if you do not have them available. Additionally, if you have any special clothing that your child might like to tell the class about, for special celebrations or anything like that, we welcome that as well. Please just send a note with a brief explanation about it. Reminders: We continue to go outside each day as long as the weather is above 20 and no snow or rain. Please send warm hats and gloves and thick coats so children stay warm as they enjoy the outside. If you only sent in shorts at the beginning of the year for spare clothing, now is also a good time to send in long pants. You never know when your child may need a spare change of clothes. :) Side By Side next week! This will be a presentation by our service providers. This can be valuable for all children whether they receive speech, OT, or PT, or not. I hope to see you all there! Some fun in the classroom! :-) |
