Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your week of family time with your children at home! I am looking forward to meeting with all of you Monday and Tuesday next week! This week we continued our Thanksgiving theme. We sponge painted leaves in the art center. We have had some opportunities to draw on the smart board. Our afternoon class had a chance to journal about our favorite Thanksgiving foods. We even got to try some pumpkin pie on Thursday! In Second Step we learned about more feelings. We have now talked about surprised and scared, in addition to happy and sad. We learned about the letter O. Our story this week was Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf. It was so great to see so many families in the classroom for American Education Week on Tuesday!

Hello Preschool Families! What a whirlwind of a fun, busy week we have had. We celebrated both Veteran's Day and the Week of the Young Child! Our morning classes were able to attend a Veteran's Day assembly with the whole school on Tuesday, where we listened to songs, learned the proper way to fold a flag, and honored our veterans. The morning and afternoon classes both made red, white, and blue star hats for the occasion, and got to practice their patterning skills with that activity as well. In celebrating the Week of the Young Child, Ms. Behun, our preschool director, invited us to visit her office, where she read our class a story. Additionally, we had an opportunity to read with older students from another classroom this week too! Our class focused our activities around fall and Thanksgiving. We read a story called The Great Turkey Rescue, which was lots of fun. Our dramatic play center currently includes some opportunities for the children to practice writing a Thanksgiving shopping list. What is nice about this activity is that it allows students of different ages and abilities to work at their own level. Some students are practicing writing the actual words they see on these sheets, while others are checking off boxes by the picture, and still others are practicing pre-writing strokes and pretending to write. We also introduced two new Thanksgiving songs. Ask your child to sing "Please Pass the Peas," and "The Turkey Hop!" In art, the students have had the freedom to make their own choices this week. Some have painted, others have glued leaves onto fall shapes, and others have chosen non-art activities. Our morning class was treated to a Mystery Reader that read us a book about spiders. What a fun treat! Thank you so much to all our Mystery Reader parents. The children really enjoy and look forward to this activity! Next week we are looking forward to welcoming all of you into our classroom for American Education Week! The times for preschool are 10:30-11:05 and 2:30-3:05 on Tuesday, November 18. You will get a little glimpse into the things your child does in school. Please note that due to fire codes, only 2 adults per children may attend, and children not in the class are not permitted to attend. Thanks so much for your understanding!
Next Week: Theme: Fall and Thanksgiving Letter O Second Step: Continue feelings- We did not finish due to our very packed schedule this week! Hello Families! It has been another busy week in preschool. We are testing for report cards, and I am so impressed at all the wonderful things your children have already learned. This is such a time of growth for our kids! I am also delighted to let you know that Ms. Dawn is back in our classroom. Your child may have mentioned that she was out sick the previous week. We sure did miss her while she was gone, and I am so happy that she is healthy and back in our room! Our theme this week was Fall and Thanksgiving. The students did some free art painting. The story of the week was The Thankful Book by Todd Parr. The students then wrote in their journals about their families, since family is one of many things for which we are thankful. We were treated to Mystery Readers in both our morning and afternoon classes. It is so fun to see the different personalities of our families and the stories they choose to read aloud. It is an interesting peek into your home lives to see which books your children love to read at home. The children are enjoying the surprise element of waiting to see who is coming. Whenever we have a special event in the day, we mark it on the calendar with "oops!" The students look forward to our special surprise all day! Thank you to our Mystery Reader parents for making this special treat possible! In Second Step we learned all about how to identify how some is feeling, by looking at their face, particularly their eyes and mouth.
In Handwriting Without Tears, we learned about the letter U. The children loved when we learned that one word that begins with U is underwear! We are excited to be moving past the letters that only require straight lines, and learning about some letters with curves now. The children are also doing a super job practicing writing their own names. They find their name at the table each day, trace it, and write it independently. Next Week: Theme: Continuing Fall and Thanksgiving Art projects: Free art-drawing, painting Handwriting Without Tears: Letter C Second Step: More Feelings Story: The Amazing Turkey Rescue It is also the week of the young child next week. We have the privilege of having Ms. Behun, the Assistant Principal and Preschool Supervisor, in here to read to us next Monday! I sent home confirmations of your conference time earlier this week. Please let me know if you did not receive your confirmation, or if the time does not work for you. I look forward to meeting with all of you to discuss your child's progress! We are also sad to say good-bye to Ms. Fierke. Today was her last day. She was a maternity sub for Mrs. Bishop who will be returning on Monday. We partner with Ms. Fierke's/Mrs. Bishop's class for library, group music, and gross motor time each day. Ms. Fierke will be missed, but we also look forward to having Mrs. Bishop back with our group. |
