We had a great week learning about different characteristics of boxes! The kids have been learning all about how 3D shapes, like boxes, have faces, while 2D shapes, like a flat triangle, have sides. We can count sides and faces to learn more about shapes, and practice identifying and describing them.
We've also been continuing to practice our reading and math readiness skills, such as rhyming words, letter and sound identification, counting, and patterning.
On Friday we will have a Pre-K author visit! Author, Elizabeth Nielson, will be coming to Hofer! A form went home last week to order her book, if you are interested. Purchasing the book is not required. If you do want to purchase, please return the form on Monday.
This will be our last week to study Boxes. Next week we will move on to our next study- Buildings!
Please remember to have your children dress for the weather every day. We do go outside whenever it is possible. If it is not raining, and the "feels like" temperature is 25F or above, we go outside for 30 minute periods, twice a day. The last few days' rain has melted most of the snow, but whenever there is snow, we do still go outside. When in doubt, it's always best to send kids equipped with their "frosty 5."
*Warm coat
*Hat
*Gloves or Mittens
*Snow Pants
*Snow boots- with a change of shoes in case we need to go to the gym.
I know this seems like a lot. It is a lot for us too, when we put on all the items to go outside. It does help them enjoy their time out there though, and stay dry. Practicing putting these items on and taking them off is a good skill for them to learn, If we don't use them, we can simply leave them in the backpack.
