It was a short but good week here in Pre-K. We finished up our Building study this week. We learned so much about what buildings are made from, and why we use the materials we do. Some materials are stronger than others and will help us build a sturdy building!
Next week we will begin our next new study- Simple Machines! We'll be learning about various simple machines and how and why they are used. This is a great opportunity for critical thinking and scientific exploration! You can point out simple machines in their home and neighborhood as well, to reinforce this new vocabulary. Is your door being held open by a wedge? Did you visit somewhere with a wheelchair ramp? That's an inclined plane that helps things get done! Their bicycle and your car have a wheel and axle! Do you know anyone that uses a wheelchair? You can show your child how this helps the person go places! Many objects in your home might be held together by a screw! I am excited for children to learn about how simple machines help us every day!
The 5 Essentials Parent Survey is now out! http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
The survey opened Jan. 30, 2024 and closes March 29, 2024. It's important that you take the survey for each of your children, and in the case of children in our class, take it for Hofer Elementary, even if you also have children in other schools. The survey helps us see what we are doing well, and how we can improve to best serve our children and families. I want your voice to be heard! If we don't have enough participation, we are not able to get results at all, so your participation is very important to us! If you have any issues with taking the survey, please reach out, as we are happy to help you in any way possible.
Arbor Food Service, where we get our breakfast, lunch, and snacks from is also conducting a survey. For children in pre-k, the link to give your feedback is here. (Click link on the word "here.") We appreciate your feedback, to help our food service be it's best!
Enjoy the long weekend, and we will see children back in school on Tuesday, March 5!
